For those not in the know, Vancouver Amumu might just seem like a random cluster of colours– is he supposed to be five different chromapacks rolled into one?
Not exactly. Vancouver Amumu was released back in 2010 for the Winter Olympics, which were held in, you guessed it, Vancouver! We aren’t sure why they chose to go with Amumu for this skin though – a Mummy is probably the least wintery thing we can think of.
Perhaps Riot thought Amumu was a good fit because they could slap different shades of paint on him – something like that wouldn’t have worked with snowier Champions back then, because they didn’t exist. In all honesty, their only choice was this or Ashe.
Why those colours, though?
Because blue, yellow, black, green and red are the colours that make up the Olympic Rings – Which represent the 5 continents that attended the first Olympic Games back in 1896.
Vancouver Amumu shares his theme with Team Spirit Anivia, Union Jack Fiddlesticks, The Mighty Jax and more! Summoners Rift was also revamped for the Winter Olympics. It was essentially the Christmas maps which were later added, only without the Christmas decorations. If you’re as to what it looked like, you can check it out here. (It also comes with a truck ton of nostalgia for older players.)
In game, Vancouver Amumu is a rainbow coloured walking mass of bandages, but doesn’t come with any new sound effects, animations, or particles. Still, he’s exceptionally rare.
Vancouver Amumu was discontinued after the 2010 Winter Olympics. However, it’s still possible to obtain him from mystery gifts.
He might make a reappearance for future winter events, in which case he’ll likely be priced at 520 RP. Not a bad deal, but there’s no guarantee that he’ll be back at all. If you really want Vancouver Amumu, then the only surefire way to pick him up is by visiting our unranked smurf store.
Legacy skins are still obtainable thanks to our high end account store which features League of Legends accounts with the rarest skins at the best prices.
