Guqin Sona was originally released in early 2012, which is nowhere near as long as the instrument she plays has been around for.
The Guqin is a traditional seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family. Since its conception over 5000 years ago, it’s been viewed as an instrument of immense subtlety and gentility by the more learned members of Chinese society.
It makes perfect sense then, that Sona would play this kind of instrument – after all, she is nothing if not subtle and gentle. It goes a bit deeper than that though – and this might surprise you;
The instrument used by default Sona – her Etwahl – seems to be based on the Guqin, although that has not been confirmed. As for the skins splash art, it’s pretty on point!
The background sets Sona in some form of theatre, with cherry blossom petals raining from the sky and a beam of sunlight shining upon Guqin Sona. She wears traditional Chinese garb and is clearly meant to be the sole focus of this piece.
In-game, Guqin Sona’s usual blue hair has been dyed coffee brown, and the two loose ponytails float around her as though submerged in water. The music, however, is what makes this skin for us, and we think it’ll make it for you too;
First off, you’ll instantly notice that her usual notes have been replaced by the sounds of a Guqin. This might seem like a minor change, but it impacts the Champion in a big way. Secondly, we have a little musical easter egg.
Whenever Guqin Sona has been stood still for a while, she will begin to play the League of Legends theme song. Some of her other skins supposedly also play this theme song, but none are as pronounced as Guqin Sona’s.
This skin is available right now in the Riot store for only 975, and if you ask us it’s well worth the investment!
Legacy skins are still obtainable thanks to our high end account store which features League of Legends accounts with the rarest skins at the best prices.
