Charred Maokai turns Maokai into a fire and ash creature. His green tree-like body is replaced with charred bark and his glowing molten core shows his connection to fire. His right arm and hand is twisted into a fiery claw and his left arm is still tree like but with the same fiery energy. Charred Maokai looks like destruction and rebirth, like Maokai was burned by the flames but still standing. His saplings he throws in game are small fiery creatures, that fit with the skin theme.
Charred Maokai was released on February 16, 2011 as one of Maokai’s first skins. Since then there have been no major updates or reworks to the skin except for graphical updates and visual changes that come with the game updates. In patch 7.9 Maokai’s splash art was reworked to match the modern art style of League of Legends.
Charred Maokai is not part of a skin line. But its theme is destruction, rebirth and transformation like other skins that turn champions into elemental beings or corrupted versions of themselves.
