Skin History

Old Saint Zilean was released on December 23, 2009, a day before Christmas. It was published shortly after the game's full release on October 27, 2009, making it one of League of Legends' oldest skins. Initially, the skin was only available as a limited edition. Later, Riot created Legacy Vault and converted some limited skins into legacy skins that are available for purchase once a year during a specific event.

The skin underwent a minor visual update in 2015. Try to find the difference. Except for the sharpness of the texture and minor modifications to the beard, absolutely nothing has changed.

Skin Review

Results are not great when you do something for the first time. The same can be said about the first Christmas Skins. The visual update has not been gracious to him either.

The skin obviously references an old Christmas song, “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”, that originated with a poem by Emily Huntington Miller (1833-1913), published as "Lilly's Secret" in The Little Corporal Magazine in December 1865.

To match the song's lyrics, Zilean has a bunch of presents on his stopwatch and is dressed in Santa’s clothes. There are no new animations, particles or sounds on this skin. It almost looks like good old Zilean. We can’t rate this skin high, although most Zilean's skins are not that great.

Initially, Old Saint Zilean was only available to those who purchased it during its initial 2009 Christmas patch. Since then, in 2013, Riot introduced Legacy Vault, which allows for the occasional re-release of previously released skins. This skin is only available during the Snowdown Showdown event, which begins in the second or third week of December and ends with the first patch of the new year.
