Taglines

In the Riot Games launcher, a tagline is a unique identifier associated with a player's Riot ID, used to distinguish players with the same in-game name. Riot IDs are made up of two parts: the game name and the tagline. The game name is the name players choose for themselves, while the tagline is a combination of letters and numbers that follows a hashtag (#) symbol. For example, if a player's Riot ID is "PlayerName#ABC1," "PlayerName" is the game name, and "ABC1" is the tagline.

The tagline ensures that each Riot ID is unique across all Riot Games titles and regions, such as League of Legends, Valorant, and Legends of Runeterra. This system allows players to have the same display name as others but still be uniquely identifiable by their specific tagline.

Changing your Tagline

Changing your tagline is a simple process, similar to the one for changing your game name. For more information on Riot IDs, check out our comprehensive post on Riot IDs.

  1. Log in to your Riot Account:
    • Go to the Riot Games website and log in to your account. You can do this via this link.
  2. Access the Riot ID Settings:
    • Once logged in, navigate to your account management page. You can find this by clicking on your profile icon or your account name and selecting "Settings" or "Account."
  3. Edit Riot ID:
    • In the account management section, look for the option to change your Riot ID. This section will display your current Riot ID.
  4. Change Your Tagline:
    • Click on the "Edit" or "Change" button next to your Riot ID. Here, you can enter a new display name and a new tagline. Keep in mind that the tagline must follow Riot’s guidelines, typically a combination of numbers and letters.
  5. Save Changes:
    • After entering your new display name and tagline, save the changes. There might be a confirmation step to ensure you want to proceed with the changes.
  6. Verification:
    • Sometimes, you might need to verify the change through an email or another form of verification process.

If you play League or TFT PC, you'll also be able to change your Riot ID inside your client:

  1. Enter the Shop
  2. Click the Account button
  3. Select the Riot ID Change offer
  4. Follow the popup to account.riotgames.com
  5. Enter your new Riot ID

Some important notes about changing your tagline:

  • Taglines must be 3–5 alphanumeric characters long.
  • They'll start with a region code by default, but once you've changed them, you cannot go back to using any region code. That means the following taglines will not be available when changing your Riot ID: BR, LAS, LAN, OCE, NA, EUW, EUNE, TR, RU, KR, JP, PBE, BR1, LA1, LA2, OC1, and NA1. If you try to use these codes, you may receive a "this Riot ID is already in use" error message.
  • Riot Games usually allows you to change your Riot ID and tagline for free once every 365 days. For any other subsequent changes, you’ll have to pay a fee.
  • Make sure the display name and tagline you choose are available and comply with Riot Games' naming policies.
