Remake is Riot’s way of letting you leave a game early if someone goes AFK at the start. It’s not the same as surrendering. You don’t lose LP and you do not gain XP, or Blue Essence. The game just ends, and you can queue up again.

But the rules around it are strict. If you don’t know the timing, you might miss your chance.

How It Differs from Surrendering

Remake lets your team end the game early if someone goes AFK before the match really starts. It's not a surrender, and it doesn’t count as a loss for all except for offending player.

In a surrender, the game needs to go longer, and everyone loses LP or MMR. With a remake, the game ends clean. You don’t get rewards, but you don’t get punished either—unless you’re the one who disconnected.

There are early surrenders available when someone rage quits after the remake window has elapsed. Read here for more information about LeaverBuster and Low Priority Queue.

How Remakes work in League of Legends?

When Can You Use It?

You can only remake if a teammate is:

  • disconnected
  • inactive for 90 seconds from the start of the game
  • Moved and connected but has not bought items or left the base

The window to trigger a remake is between 1:30 and 3:00.

You have to type /remake in chat. The game doesn’t do it for you.

Here’s the catch:

  • If someone goes AFK after First Blood and being active, you can’t remake.
  • If the vote fails or doesn’t happen in time, that’s it—you’re stuck playing the rest.

Remake Timing and Player Inactivity Windows

Here’s how it works:

  • From 0:00 to 1:30, the game tracks player activity, but you can’t remake yet.
  • From 1:30 to 3:00, remake becomes available—only if someone’s been AFK for at least 90 seconds.
  • If they disconnect at 0:05 and never come back, remake kicks in around 1:35.
  • The system gives your team a short window to type /remake and start a vote.

If that vote doesn’t happen, the opportunity disappears after 3:00.

First Blood & Remake Eligibility

If teammate was active and then leaves AFTER First Blood happens, the remake option is gone—even if someone’s still AFK.

Required Votes to Remake (4v5, 3v5, 2v5 Scenarios)

Here’s how the voting works:

  • In a 4v5, you need 2 players to type /remake and vote yes.
  • In a 3v5 or 2v5, only 1 vote is enough.

But remember, the vote can only be started once. If the vote fails—because someone didn’t click yes in time—you can’t try again.

What Happens After a Remake?

LP, MMR, BE/XP Changes

If the remake goes through, the match ends, and here’s what you get:

  • No LP gain or loss
  • No MMR change
  • No Blue Essence or XP

For ALL players except for the offending player, it’s like the game never happened.

For the offending player who AFKed he will lose:

  • Full amount of LP as if he lost the game
  • LeaverBuster penalties (longer queue times or LP Penalty)

The goal is to stop you from being punished for someone else’s disconnect.

Diamond IV & Premade Penalties

There’s one exception: Diamond IV and above players get hit if they queue with someone who AFKs—even in a remake.

So if your friend disconnects and you’re Diamond IV or higher, you’ll still lose LP.

Also, the player who went AFK always gets punished:

  • They lose LP
  • They get a loss on their record
  • Riot’s LeaverBuster flags their account

If more than one player is AFK, they all get flagged. Even if you stayed, if you just stood in base and didn’t move, the system might still count you as AFK too.

Common Confusions & Frustrations (Community Insights)

Why Was I Not Able to Remake?

This happens a lot. You think remake should be available, but nothing pops up.

Common reasons:

  • The AFK timer didn’t hit 90 seconds in time.
  • Someone reconnected right before the vote.
  • First Blood happened.
  • Nobody typed /remake fast enough.
  • The team already tried to vote, and it failed. You only get one chance.

It’s not always clear, and that’s what frustrates players.

When the System Fails Players

Sometimes the remake system feels unfair.

One player shared how the enemy jungler disconnected during an invade. The game allowed a remake—even though the jungler was active at the beginning of the game. This is because he was active for over 90 seconds total within the 3 minute window allowed for remakes.

Other times, remakes go through when nobody seemed AFK. Or worse, they don’t trigger when someone clearly was.

There’s no in-game timer or message that explains why remake isn’t possible. That lack of feedback adds to the confusion.

Calls for a Better Behavior Detection System

A lot of players think Riot should improve how the system detects AFK behavior.

Ideas from the community include:

  • Shorter remake timers for extreme cases
  • A visual remake countdown
  • More transparency about why remake didn’t trigger

Right now, the system feels inconsistent. And when LP is on the line, that stings.

How to Remake a Game – Step-by-Step

Using the /remake Command

If someone is AFK for 90 seconds at the start of the game, you’ll see a message in chat:

“A player has been AFK. You may now type /remake to start a vote.”

Here’s what to do:

  1. Type /remake in chat.
  1. Click “Yes” when it shows up.

That’s it.

If enough people vote yes, the match ends.

But again:

  • You only get one vote per game
  • It must happen before 3:00
⚠️

Do not get baited if you get a prompt that you can surrender due to an AFK on your team post 3:00 minute mark it will be a surrender and you will lose LP!

Best Practices to Avoid Penalties (Stay Active!)

Even if you’re not the AFK player, don’t just sit in base.

Riot’s system can tag you as AFK too. That means:

  • Move around
  • Auto-attack something
  • Walk to lane
  • Buy Items

If your team remakes and you haven’t moved, you could still get flagged and penalized.

What If Someone AFKs After 3:00?

Once the clock hits 3:00, remake is off the table.

At that point, your only option is to play the match out or try to surrender later.

Remake is only meant for early-game disconnects, not mid-game rage quits.

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Do I lose LP if my team remakes?

Not unless you were the AFK player or you’re Diamond IV+ and queued with the person who went AFK. Everyone else gets out clean.

❓ Can I remake in ARAM or other modes?

Yes. You can remake in normal, ranked, ARAM, and rotating game modes. But not in bot matches.

❓ Why didn’t remake work when someone was AFK?

Maybe they disconnected too late. Maybe First Blood happened. Maybe no one typed /remake. The system is strict—and not always clear.

❓ If I don’t move but stay connected, can I still get punished?

Yes. If you don’t move at all, Riot’s system might flag you as AFK. Always move, even if your team plans to remake.

❓ Does a remake affect MMR or my win/loss record?

No. For most players, remakes don’t affect your stats at all. It’s like the match never happened.

❓ Can we vote to remake more than once?

Nope. You get one shot. If the vote fails or no one types /remake in time, that’s it.

❓ Can multiple players get punished in the same remake?

Yes. If more than one person is AFK or disconnected, they all get penalized.

❓ Does First Blood always cancel remake?

Yes. Once someone dies in PvP, the remake option disappears—even if someone is still AFK.

Conclusion

The remake system in League of Legends is one of the few tools that protects you from losing LP due to someone else’s disconnect. But it only works if you understand the timing and conditions. Missing that small window means playing a full match at a disadvantage—and possibly losing rank over something you couldn’t control.

If you're focused on climbing, remake is essential to not lose your sanity when you see this LP go down. And once you’re past the early game, understanding how the ranking system works can make a real difference. At the end of the day, using remake the right way is one more step toward better games—and better results.
