What Can Louis Vuitton Bring To League of Legends?
Louis Vuitton is one of the most prestigious Fashion Houses in history, and they’re partnering with League of Legends! The two companies are working to create a trophy box for the Summoners Cup, that will be revealed at the World Championship finale in France! A partnership this grand has never been done in gaming industry and could mean big things for LoL.
This could only mean one thing: LoL must be getting fashionable, or such a large fashion company would not partner with it. While this might get some fashionistas to sign up to LoL, it’s going to do much more than that;
Back in 2014, Louis Vuitton designed the Football World Cup trophy case. This crossover proved quite popular, so they decided to team up again for the 2018 World Cup. Why does this matter? Because it means that companies are starting to look at eSports the same way they do Football. Louis Vuitton isn’t the only big company to partner with LoL though.
Nike recently revealed a new line of jerseys for League teams in China’s LPL, which will debut just in time for the World Championships. There’s While we’re excited to see these Jersey’s, there’s plenty of partnering going on across the eSports world though. Fortnite Superstar Tyler Blevins (AKA Ninja) recently launched a new line of apparel with Adidas, which is sure to make both parties plenty of money.
Back to the matter at hand though: What does Louis Vuitton partnering with League of Legends really mean for you?
First off, there’s the clothes. You will soon be able to dress your favourite LoL Champions up in Louis Vuitton outfits – hopefully for a much lower price tag than the ones sold in IRL stores.
What sort of skins will be available, and will they be worth picking up? Keep reading to learn about our theories!
Along with the fancy new box, we’re also receiving a new host of skins to play with. Riot stated that the designer behind these Louis Vuitton skins creates IRL female clothing – which might mean no male Champions will be receiving these fashionable skins. We hope that’s not the case though. After all, who wouldn’t want to see Mundo hurling a Louis Vuitton handbag while wearing a revealing yet elegant dress?
Qiyana
Being one of the most popular Champions to be released recently, we think Qiyana would look great decked out in Louis Vuitton.
Here frisbee – or whatever that thing is – would look great coated in dark leather, with the traditional Louis Vuitton pattern on it. Plus,
Ahri
The Nine-Tailed Fox is a good candidate for two reasons. The first is that she’s a popular Champion in her own right, with plenty of players putting countless hours into her.
The second reason is that everything about her is glamourous. There’s a reason she’s received both a Popstar AND a KDA skin.
A nice leather jacket and some Louis Vuitton tails would look great on Ahri, but she’s not the only Champion fighting for the spotlight.
Miss Fortune
There are so many Miss Fortune skins that we’d have a hard time remembering them all! Riot wouldn’t make so many skins for a Champion if she weren’t popular, and it’s easy to see why. Thanks to her flaming red hair and large, uh, guns, she’s won the hearts of fans from every region.
Honestly, we can picture her strutting around in a pair of Star Trail High Boots.
Lux
Another popular Champion with an insane amount of skins, but what’s interesting about this potential skin is the staff. We all know Louis Vuitton for their bags, but they’ve produced tons of different items throughout the years.
These include; jackets, candles, canes, and more. We’re not sure how a Louis Vuitton staff would look, but we want it already.
Riot might also add the Louis Vuitton logo beneath Lux’s E, as they have done with some pro team skins.
It’s a well-known fact that a piece from Louis Vuitton can cost more than the average wedding ring. Of course, we can expect the price tag to be a lot lower for the in-game LoL skins.
As a Louis Vuitton designer is working on these skins, we predict that they will cost 975 per skin. However, they may also cost 1350, but receive a discounted price of 975 at release.
Overall fairly cheap, and we predict that both Louis Vuitton and League of Legends will profit massively from this partnership.
Will this mean more branded skins in the future? Probably so, and there’s a real danger to that which we will reveal shortly. Why would Louis Vuitton do this though, after all, they’re so prestigious, and many misguided people see gaming as “beneath the mega design company”
It’s pretty clear why these two gigantic companies would team up: increased exposure for both brands and increased profit for both. That’s the bottom line here, and that’s where the danger lies.
Monetisation is an issue in the games industry, and this will only add fuel to the fire. Sure, it seems harmless enough at first, but you are PAYING to make your Champion a walking billboard for Louis Vuitton. Not only that, but Riot has already stated that they’re ready to work with outside brands and make more sponsored skins.
Riot will do whatever makes them money – if enough people purchase these skins, then they’re going to go further. Who knows, in a couple of years time you might be collecting Coca Cola cans in the hopes of getting the rare ‘Cola Kai’Sa’ skin.
There are other potential pitfalls to Riot partnering too though. For instance, it might ruin their reputation completely.
If League of Legends does something that Louis Vuitton disagrees with, they will request their logo be stripped from skins. This would be disastrous for Riot, as a bunch of unhappy players would be forced to have their skins changed – or, perhaps even worse, Riot is forced to refund everyone who purchased a skin.
And, if Louis Vuitton’s reputation should be tarnished, then League of Legends faces the same issue. This fear of being forced into a no-win situation might be why Riot has stayed away from partnerships in the past.
Louis Vuitton seems to be prestigious enough to change their minds though, and as we have seen with Fortnite, LoL is only likely to become more commercialised.
