Independence Day is an important national holiday in North America. The holiday takes place on the 4th of July, although since most of you are from North America then you probably already know what Independence Day is.

If you’re not American, then Independence Day is the day America officially left the British Empire and signed the Declaration of Independence, although their independence wasn't gained overnight. Tensions had been brewing for a while, ever since a bunch of Bostonians tossed bundles of tea into the ocean, roughly 92,000 pounds of tea was wasted, but it was the beginning of America's road to liberty.

The 4th of July is still celebrated every year and is now a national holiday, commonly associated with fireworks, carnivals, family reunions, patriotism and food. Sort of like Christmas, only in July, and with less pressure to buy gifts.

To celebrate the 4th of July Riot released a collection of American themed skins in 2010. The skin collection features skins for 4 different champions; Ryze, Karthus, Gangplank and Anivia, all with plenty of patriotic pizzazz.

Here are all the American LoL skins, let us know which one you think is the best!

League of Legends for July 4th

Uncle Ryze

Uncle Ryze League of Legends Independence Day Skin

This skin was released on 4th July 2010 to celebrate Independence Day for that year. The skin features Ryze in the style of Uncle Sam with the matching outfit and top hat.

Uncle Sam is a national personification of the American government and the United States. Originally appearing in 1812, Uncle Sam has since been spotted on posters during both World Wars, attempting to recruit men who were willing to lay down their lives, turning Uncle Sam into a symbol of American patriotism. It's a happy accident that his initials spell out "U.S"

The skin was available in store for a limited time during the July 4th celebrations in 2010. During that time, the skin was available in the store for 520 RP and was sold as a regular skin. Since then the skin has been removed and is no longer available from the store.

Statue of Karthus

Statue of Karthus League of Legends Independence Day Skin

The skin features Karthus as the Statue of Liberty holding a large torch in his hand mimicking the pose of the statue.

It's likely that even none Americans know what the Statue of Liberty looks like, she's the big green lady with a torch that you'll see on most New York postcards. She also has a tablet which is inscribed with the date of the date "4th July 1776" making her a perfect fit.

The statue is an icon of freedom and of the United States in general, thus making it a great theme for an American skin, even though the Statue of Liberty was originally a gift from France.
Fun fact; The statue of Liberty was originally a hulking 93 meters of shining copper before exposure turned her the unique shade of green she is today!

Minuteman Gangplank

Minuteman Gangplank League of Legends Independence Day Skin

This skin features the champion Gangplank as an American solider from the revolutionary war, also known as a minuteman. A Minuteman was a highly mobile, rapidly deployed force that allowed the colonies to swiftly respond to threats They were well known for being battle ready at a minutes notice - you can probably guess how they got the name.

Gangplank wears a blue and white costume whilst carrying his trusty gun and sword, which are now more modern and sleep, although the animations, sounds, and particles remain the same.

Currently, the skin is no longer available, just like the other American themed skins. The only way to get it is from accounts that already have had it redeemed.

Bird of Prey Anivia

Bird of Prey Anivia League of Legends Independence Day Skin

This skin replaces Anivias frosty feathers with a patriotic plumage of brown and white. The Bald Eagle was the only real option here, as it's such a badass bird that not only is it America's National animal, but it is also there national bird.

It was once a sacred animal, the feathers of which could be found adorning many Native Americans headdresses, and these days it can even be found on the seal of the President of the United States!

Like all the skins above, Bird of Prey Anivia can only be obtained by picking it up from our store, which you can visit below. You'll also find plenty of other rare skins to enjoy too!
