It’s the 19th of September and for whose that don't know it’s national talk like a pirate day! To celebrate this day we’re looking at the best pirate skins available in League of Legends. So buckle yer belts 'n lets 'ave a look at th' best League o' Legends pirate skins!
When you think of pirates and League of Legends then probably Gangplank springs to mind. Gangplank is the original pirate and he’s well known throughout the LoL universe. Wherever he goes death and ruin follow, Gangplank is the most feared pirate far and wide.
There’s a lot of history and trivia behind Gangplank, for example did you know that he killed Miss Fortune’s mother back when she was just a girl? Since that day Miss Fortune has vowed to capture him and make sure he meets his demise. But it’s not just Miss Fortune that wants Gangplank dead, Swain and Zed also want to see justice after Gangplank stole from both of them. It might seem like a harsh price to pay for stealing but if you do the crime you do the time (or pay the ultimate price).
Aside from his back story, Gangplank was the first champion to receive 2 visual updates, have 4 classic skins made for him and temporarily replace the announcer in every single map. Add this to the amount of ships he's sunk and it's an impressive list of achievements. Gangplank is dressed like a traditional pirate with his hat, cutlass and pistol. If you want to celebrate international talk like a pirate day then Gangplank is the obvious choice!
If Gangplank didn’t spring to mind when you thought about pirates then you were probably thinking of Miss Fortune. One of Bilgewater’s most infamous bounty hunters, she built her career on catching the toughest, meanest criminals. All for a price of course. After appropriately taking the name Miss Fortune for bounty hunting purposes she went after one of her longest arch nemesis, Gangplank himself.
Miss Fortune hired Twisted Fate to rob Gangplanks warehouse while also tipping off Graves about it. This acted as a massive distraction so Miss Fortune could make plans to kill Gangplank. As you can see Gangplank is still alive and well today so let's just say that it didn't exactly work out as planned. If you don’t fancy playing Gangplank to celebrate talk like a pirate day, then Miss Fortune is the next best choice!
Aside from the 2 main pirates in League of Legends there are also a few pirate skins available in game. To get you in the pirate mood here are the skins.
The first pirate skin is Fiddlesticks, Fiddle me Timbers is a reference to the pirate old saying “shiver me timbers”. The skin features Fiddlesticks dressed up a pirate with his trusty cutlass and hook like any real pirate would have. Although he might not look like a pirate with his wooden arms and legs, don’t be fooled. With a beard and hat like that he’ll have you walking the plank in no time!
This skin was released on 25th April 2010 and was in the store for 750 RP for a limited time and has since been removed from the store. The only way to get the skin today is to buy an account with it already redeemed.
If you thought Katarina was already scary enough in game then think again. She’s even scarier as a pirate! The Bilgewater Katarina skin was released on the Riot store on 30th August 2010. The good news is the skin is currently available in store for 975 RP and is perfect to celebrate international talk like a pirate day with!
This pirate skin features Rumble in his own “ship-o-matic” walker contraption. His flamethrower has been swapped for a new gun turret and he’s proudly flying the skull and crossbones flag. There’s only one captain of this ship and its captain Rumble!
The skin was released on 26th April 2011 and cost 520 RP in the Riot store when it first came out. Since then the skin has been removed and is no longer available. The only way to get this today is to purchase an account with it already redeemed.
Pirate Ryze was released on 26th October 2012 and was available in store for 975 RP. The skin has since been removed from the store and is no longer available to purchase. If you really want to get this rare pirate skin then you’ll have to buy an account with it already redeemed.Â
The skin features Ryze dressed a pirate and has swapped his rune book for a big bottle of rum instead! His large scroll on his back has also been changed to a huge cannon, because you never know when you’ll need to man the cannons!
What’s a pirate’s best friend? No it’s not a trick question, it’s obviously a parrot! With this skin, Swain is dressed as a smart pirate with a cane and hook when in his human form. When he uses his ultimate he no longer changes into a large raven but instead changes into a large red parrot like bird. The skin is likely a reference to Long John Silver, the first pirate that carried a parrot around with him. The skin was released on 5th October 2010 and is available in the store now for 520 RP. If you want to celebrate international pirate day in style then Bilgewater Swain is an excellent choice!
If you have a pirate ship and need someone to man the cannons who are you going to call? A good choice would be rocket girl herself Tristana. This skin features Tristana dressed up in pirate gear doing what she does best, handling cannons! Although she’s wearing an eye patch and might have trouble aiming correctly we’d still trust her with our cannons any day!
Released on 27th June 2011 Buccaneer Tristana is currently available in the store for 520 RP and is a great pirate skin to add to anyone's collection.
