Welcome to the arena, summoner! The new game mode in League of Legends, dubbed as Arena, is set to offer an exciting variation to the classic 5v5 battles that we have come to love. Arena provides a completely fresh perspective of the game, merging mechanics from the classic League mode and Teamfight Tactics. Let's dive into the details!
It's live right now. You can try it on PBE from 28th June up to 12th July when it will go to live servers. If you need a PBE account get it instantly in our shop.
The Arena game mode follows a simple four-step process.
Summoner’s Rift, while exciting, doesn’t capture all the creative and skillful expressions possible in League. Arena was conceptualized as a version of League where players could explore these endless possibilities in a more direct and adrenaline-fueled way. Arena creates a fast-paced environment that encourages players to respond to powerful upgrades and attempt unconventional tactics.
Unlike in the classic League mode, Runes and Summoner Spells have been eliminated in Arena. Runes turned out to be relatively unexciting and offered little diversity. As for Summoner spells, Flash is the only spell that remains, while other traditional spells have been replaced by a new spell called Flee. The primary objective behind this decision was to speed up the game and emphasize the new power-ups available in each match.
Item mechanics in Arena have been reimagined. All items in the shop have their stats adjusted to cost 3000 gold, eliminating the concept of components. This alteration effectively counters the issue of snowballing, which is a significant aspect of the traditional League mode. Along with items, Arena introduces Juices, short-term power boosts that you can purchase with gold earned by killing enemy champions.
Augments are Arena's way of providing players with substantial abilities. They significantly impact the gameplay and require players to adapt to varying situations. They are divided into three tiers: Silver, Gold, and Prismatic, each offering a different level of power and creativity.
Designed to keep the game fresh and interesting, Arena features unique map terrains, including a new type of terrain called Deep Water. Additionally, there is the Power Flower, a beneficial plant that grants the player who attacks it healing, shielding, and cooldown reduction. Champions from the Soul Fighter thematic will also make brief appearances in Arena matches to add to the excitement and unpredictability.
The Arena introduces a new early exit mechanic, allowing teams to leave and queue up for another game once they lose. This mechanism provides a rapid game turnover and a stress-free gaming environment.
Moreover, a ranked system has been implemented for players who thrive on competition. The ladder for Arena ranges from Wood to Gladiator, and players earn points by placing in the top two teams. Loss mitigation is in place for the first five games, which means during these games, players can only gain points.
With all its exciting new features and fast-paced gameplay, Arena seems to be an exciting addition to League of Legends that brings fresh mechanics and a lot of potential for creativity and strategic planning. We can't wait to see how players will adapt to this new game mode and the different strategies they will come up with to conquer the arena!
