As we fast approach the 2017 summer eSports tournaments in League of Legends, it’s always good to look at the changes from the previous years. This year the Chinese League of Legends Pro League (LPL) has adopted the same game format as the EU and NA LCS.

To make sure you fully understand the new pro league formats we thought we’d quickly run through them all. Here are the current formats for the most important leagues this summer.

EU & NA LCS 2017 Summer Formats

EU LCS 2017 Summer Format

The 2017 EU LCS will take the following format:

  • 10 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 5

  • For weeks 4 - 7 the tournament will be single round robin
  • For the last 3 weeks of the tournament it will also be a double round robin

Chinese LPL 2017 Summer Format

After having the same format for quite some time, the Chinese LPL has finally decided to change their format. As of 2017, the Chinese LPL will adopt the EU LCS format for selecting regular season groups. The highest ranked teams from the previous Spring split will head the groups with other teams being selected. This also means the format now includes the best of 3 matches instead of the best of 2.

The 2017 Chinese LPL will take the following format:

  • 12 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 6
  • Teams are tiered by their performance in the 2017 LPL Spring Split
  • The tournament will last 10 weeks and will be played as double round robin
  • All matches are now best of 3 and the winner gets 1 point
  • The winner of the summer split will automatically qualify for the World Championship

Korean LCK 2017 Summer Format

The 2017 LoL Champions Korea Split will take the following format:

  • 10 teams will compete in a round robin stage
  • For the entire tournament it will be a double round robin
  • All games will be best out of 3
  • The top 5 teams will qualify for the playoffs
  • Special awards are given to selected players after the season
  • A season and final award will be given to one player each
  • A KDA award will be given to one player of each role
  • The top 5 teams will qualify for the summer playoffs

Now you understand the formats for the summer tournaments, we hope you’re as excited as we are to watch them!
