Snowdown Showdown - League of Legends Winter Holiday Events
Every December, Riot Games brings the festive season into LoL with the Snowdown Showdown event. Since its first appearance in 2009, it has become one of the most recognizable annual events in the game. Players can expect holiday-themed skins, a new battle pass, and limited-time skins and emotes that can only be obtained within the Snowdown event.
In recent years, however, the practice of making limited holiday-only skins has become more rare. Riot Games has expressed their desire over the years to wind up with something that’s less tied to real-life holidays and more tied into the in-lore holidays, eventually winding up with the Winterblessed skin line in 2022 and 2023.
All Snowdown Skins
The central point of Snowdown Showdown are the skins, along with every now and then, a new gamemode or changes to the Summoner’s Rift.
Most of these skins are Legacy cosmetics, which only become available during Snowdown Showdown.

Other Snowdown Events
Legend of the Poro King
In the 2014 event, Riot Games hosted a new gamemode, Legend of the Poro King. The gamemode featured a 5v5 in the Howling Abyss with random champions, just like ARAM. However, teams had a new summoner spell—Poro Toss—which allowed them to hit a long-range skillshot to get a Poro Mark. After getting enough Poro Marks, your team would summon the Poro King, which acted much like a siege minion with thousands of health and resistances.
The mode wasn’t necessarily that much notable over ARAM, and it never came back. However, it created the Mark summoner spell, that still features in ARAM to this day.
Winter Summoner’s Rift
The Summoner’s Rift was changed to a snowy, taiga-like version for the 2009 and 2010 events. It was extremely well-received, and it returned to the new Summoner’s Rift in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
For some time, the Winter Rift did not come back due to the new elemental dragons manipulating the terrain and making it far too much work for just a seasonal event. However, the Winter Summoner’s Rift is confirmed to return for Snowdown 2025.
