Legacy Skins LoL: Full Guide and Calendar

When it comes to League of Legends skins, there are hundreds made each year, totalling to over 2000 unique skins throughout the entire game. However, the Riot Store doesn't show you all of them. A collection of 200 skins are attainable, but are locked behind special events and time-limited sales that rotate throughout the year.

The Legacy Vault

Although sometimes skins will be completely retired from the game, other times, they are instead put into the Legacy Vault. Starting in 2014, Riot Games started to clean up the client a little, getting rid of old skins that were too unsightly or outdated to be shown to new players. As the years went on, these skins became more and more rare, and ended up being actually sought as collector's items.

Legacy skins are not always in the Riot Store, but they can always be rolled from Hextech Crafting and Skin Shards, or received through Mystery Gifts.

Keep in mind that we will only be tracking Legacy skins that depend on seasonal content. There are some exceptions to this rule; for example, while Conqueror Jax is tied to the Conqueror skin rotation within April, Prestige Conqueror Jax is in the Mythic Shop in a completely different rotation tied to Mythic skins.

Esports Skins

Challenger Skin - Early January

The follow skins were released to commemorate the start of the League of Legends competitive season start. In 2017, however, they were replaced by Conqueror skins. They become available during the start of each League of Legends season.

Conqueror Skins - Late April

Conqueror Skins were released to commemorate the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and Spring Split tournaments. They tend to be released around the time of these tournaments, and all previous Conqueror skins become available for a short time when a new one comes out.

Worlds/Championship Skins - September to November

Worlds Skins (previously named Championship skins) commemorate the finals of Worlds Championships, and return each time a new World Championship starts. Championship skins have been a tradition for a long time, and thus already have their own article all about them and their history.

World Champions Skins - September to November

World Champions skins are a set of 5 skins released each year, to commemorate the winners of that Season's World Championship. The skins are decided by a combination of which champion the players were successful with, which champions the players like the most, and which ones they are known for the most. They also tend to bear the player's signature on their recall.

They tend to be released 6-8 months after the end of Worlds. New Worlds skins are immediately available once they're done, but previous ones are only available in September and November, while Worlds is active.

World Champions 2015 (SKT Telecom T1)

The 2015 iteration of T1 skins weren't up to expectations in design, so it led to a situation where the skins had to be remade. At this point, Bang changed his selected champion from Sivir to Kalista. It was also at this point where the midlane substitute for Faker, Easyhoon, got to choose one.

World Champions 2015 (SKT Telecom T1)

Technically, SKT T1 Sivir is a skin that exists and has been made. However, it seems to be the only skin in the game that has been finished and shown to the public (in the PBE and in Skin Spotlights) but no user has ever acquired.

Holiday Skins

Halloween/Harrowing - Second Half of October

The Harrowing is the Halloween event, which opens up during October and ends on the first day of November. It's tailored after the in-universe event of yearly Harrowings around Runeterra, when the Black Mists of the Shadow Isles reaches across the seas, dragging along with it the restless spirits of the dead. There's quite a few of these, so check out our personal favorites!

Bewitching Neeko skin

The Harrowing features the following skins:

Lunar New Year - Late January and Early February

League of Legends' Lunar New Year event is Lunar Revel. Some Lunar Revel skins are actually permanent, mostly the ones that were released earlier, such as Panda Annie or Lunar Goddess Diana. However, the following skins are contained within the vault, opening up around late January and early February.

Lunar Empress Lux

Christmas Skins - Early December

The official name of the League of Legends Christmas event is Snowdown Showdown. Skins tend to be teased or come out during the start of December, with the official event lasting around 3 weeks after that, which allows you to purchase Snowdown-related skins until then.

Candy Cane Miss Fortune

Valentine's Day Skins - February

Valentine's Days skins nowadays tend to be permanent. However, there are some made prior to 2020 that became Legacy content. Most of the more recent skins in the theme are likely to stay in the store permanently. They have their own dedicated article if you'd like to learn more.

Heartseeker Quinn

These skins include:

Other Limited Content

Outside of Legacy skins, there's other skins in League of Legends that do not appear as seasonal content, but are given out in different events. These limited edition skins include:

  • Riot skins, which are given at events like PAX, Gamescom, Riot's anniversary celebrations and other exclusive special events.
  • Traditional skins. Before the Champion Update team existed, champions who underwent a Full Relaunch were given new skins that represented their previous incarnation, the exception being Lee Sin Lee Sin (who was created but never released in his). These were available free for those who already owned the corresponding champion or on sale for two weeks for those who did not, period after which they became Legacy skins. They may be made temporarily available again once the corresponding champion receives a skin splash art update. Currently, these include Traditional Lee Sin, Traditional Karma, Traditional Sejuani and Traditional Trundle.
  • Bundled skins, which are only available through buying digital bundles from the Riot Store. Currently, the only ones are Goth Annie (which can only be acquired from the Digital Collector's Pack) and Huntress Sivir (which can only be acquired from the Champions Bundle).
  • Hextech skins, which are currently only able to be unlocked with Mythic Essence through the rotating Mythic Shop. The Mythic Shop cycles 3 Hextech skins out of a total of 15 every 3 months. Despite there being quite a few older skins with the name "Hextech" in them, quite a few of them are actually retired.
  • Prestige skins, some of which are event-specific and require a certain amount of tokens to redeem them, before permanently becoming legacy content.
  • Refer a Friend skins, which include Medieval Twitch and Grey Warwick. After the Refer a Friend system was discontinued, these skins became Legacy content awarded for free to players who achieve Honor Level 5.

For some of these skins, it is usually less trouble to buy accounts who already own that skin, rather than going out and trying to acquire them by yourself. You can check out our League of Legends accounts for sale sorted by skin ownership.

Retired Legacy Skins

As explained in our Skin Tiers article, Retired skins do not periodically come back to the shop with a special day or holiday. They do, however, pop up in Your Shop, the periodic RP champion skin sale personalized to your match history.

The Your Shop sale is supposed to appear 5 times per year, but it has not yet appeared in 2025. Many people speculate that it may have been discontinued along with the possibility of gaining Hextech Chests for free. However, with the recent roll-back of the change on Hextech Chests, it's not unheard of for this feature to be around again.

Hextech Anivia

These tend to be some of the more rare League of Legends skins due to how hard they are to come by. The only way to acquire one of these is through Your Shop or by purchasing an account that already has it.

Excluding champion skins priced at 1820, most of these weren't usually worth more than 750 RP at the time of their release. Some of these also include older Legendary skins that no longer fit that tier's standard of quality.

Retired skins include:

Legacy Items

Other than rare skins, there's other seasonal content that comes to the store, coinciding with relevant events. Examples include ward skins, summoner icons and emotes. Skin borders, however, are locked to players who received the respective skins during their official event.

Discontinued Events

Some Legacy content used to be come back periodically, just like the rest of the Legacy Vault, but Riot Games stopped hosting events and celebrations for these specific real life events. They've returned once or twice, but their latest iteration of the event the skins are based on have not seen the content returned to the store. These include:

Winter Sports Event

Created to celebrate the Winter Olympics. The skin line came out all the way back in 2010, and came back for the 2014 and 2018 celebrations for the Winter Olympics, but did not return for 2022. They're not likely to return, but they remain some of the goofier ones available.

The Mighty Jax

The Winter Sports skins include:

FIFA World Cup Events

Created to celebrate the FIFA Soccer (or Football) World Cup. The skin line came out in 2010, displaying champions as soccer referees, players and fans of the event. It came back for the 2014 and 2018 events of the World Cup, but did not return for 2022 because of the wide array of controversies surrounding the competition in Qatar.

Goalkeeper Blitzcrank

It's unlikely we'll see them make a comeback unless things change at FIFA.

These skins include:

Conclusion

That wraps up all the Legacy skins currently in the game. It's likely we'll see the number grow as the standards rise, and even older skins will start to slip into the dark corner of the market that are Unavailable skins. A Cho'Gath recolor that's worth pennies today may be worth quite a bit more to a one-trick-pony and collector, years down the line, after he's updated and reworked.

We hope this guide will be helpful for your collecting efforts!
