When faced with the problem of creating a unique skinline designed around a fictional holiday rather than designed around real-life Christmas, the design team came up with the Winterblessed skinline. A dark fantasy skinline with winter thematics based on European folk tales such as Brothers Grimm, Krampus, and Perchta.
The event is variation on the Snowdown Showdown, which is a yearly recurring Winter Holidays celebration event that spans 4-6 weeks.

Every winter at the first snowfall, the spirit of the Aurora manifests as Polaris, a divine avatar who blesses the virtuous and punishes the selfish. The Polaris changes year by year, with each incarnation being judged by how they utilize their power.
2023 - Diana
In 2023, the Polaris incarnated as Diana, and was approached by three magi—the hunter Swain, the sage Zilean, and the warden Zoe, who asked blessings for their people. Instead of granting their selfish wishes, Diana created for them Warwick, the beast, and Shaco, the automaton. Falsely thinking that they were blessings, the three magi fought over the two beings before Polaris declared they were here to punish them.
2024 - Senna
In 2024, Senna awoke as the Polaris with none of her memories. Hecarim, the guardian of Polaris, and Hwei, the herald of Aurora, guided her through her new role. Her first gift was that of a toy bear to Annie, who mourned the death of her pet bear.
Senna’s journey was interrupted by the thieves, Camille, Sylas and Thresh, who sought revenge for past punishments. When they succeeded, the Aurora’s raw energy consumed Camille and Sylas, leaving a corrupted and twisted Thresh as the Polaris.
Before Thresh could use his power, Senna’s forgotten lover, Lucian, appeared to help. He sacrificed himself, destroying Thresh and restoring Senna as the current Polaris. As Lucian died, their love returned to Senna’s memory, and she honoured him by placing his soul in the sky as the Southern Star.
Winterblessed 2025?
Riot Games has not confirmed that Winterblessed will happen in 2025, or who will be the Polaris this year. Rumors are to the side of not having a Winterblessed event this year, but it’s yet to be confirmed.
